The table above is filtered from our full casino rankings down to the two we currently rate highest specifically for baccarat, using the same methodology behind our overall casino scoring: licensing and reputation, table variety and stakes range, payout speed, and mobile experience.
Before any cards are dealt, you bet on which of two hands - Player or Banker - will finish closer to 9, or on a Tie between them. That's the entire decision; everything else happens automatically according to fixed rules.
Cards 2 through 9 count at face value, 10s and face cards count as zero, and Aces count as one. If a hand's total goes above 9, only the second digit counts - a hand of 7 and 8 (totalling 15) counts as 5. The highest possible hand value is therefore always 9.
Both Player and Banker start with two cards. If either hand totals 8 or 9 (a natural), no more cards are drawn and the higher total wins. Otherwise, a fixed table of draw rules - not a decision by you or the dealer - determines whether a third card is drawn for either hand.
Whichever bet you placed matching the winning hand pays out - Player and Banker both pay close to even money, though a standard 5% commission is deducted from Banker wins, while Tie typically pays 8:1 or 9:1. A winning Banker or Player bet on a tied hand simply pushes, with your stake returned.
Straight answers to the questions we get asked most about online baccarat, commission, and house edge.
CryptoWins Casino is our top-rated pick for online baccarat among our currently-confirmed options, scoring 8.9/10. Beef Casino is a strong alternative with live baccarat tables from Evolution Gaming and Playtech.
The Banker bet carries a house edge of about 1.06% after the standard 5% commission, the Player bet about 1.24%, and the Tie bet over 14% - making Banker the best-value bet at the table despite the commission.
Speed baccarat uses the same Punto Banco rules but runs on a faster timer with fewer pauses between hands, letting you play more hands per hour. Live dealer baccarat streams a real dealer and shoe in real time and is by far the most popular way to play baccarat online, reflecting its popularity in land-based casinos.
The Banker hand wins slightly more often than the Player hand under Punto Banco's draw rules, so casinos charge a 5% commission on Banker wins to balance the odds between the two bets. Even with the commission, Banker remains the lower house-edge bet of the two.
Baccarat is purely a game of chance - there are no decisions to make once you've placed your bet, since the third-card draw rules are fixed and automatic. Your only real choice is which bet (Player, Banker, or Tie) to place before the cards are dealt.
Licensed online baccarat runs on independently audited RNG software (for RNG tables) or streams a real shoe and dealer (for live tables), so outcomes can't be rigged the way an unlicensed site's could be. Always confirm a casino holds an active gambling licence before you play for real money.
That depends on where you live - many countries and US states regulate real-money online baccarat, while others restrict or prohibit it. Check your local gambling laws and confirm a casino holds a licence covering your location before depositing.
Favour the Banker bet over Player or Tie for the lowest house edge, set a session budget before you start, and always confirm the casino holds an active gambling licence for your location. See our Responsible Gambling page for tools like deposit limits and self-exclusion.
